I was diagnosed in 2004 of having Kidney Disease. Your kidneys produce a hormone (erythropoietin) which allows the bone marrow to create red blood cells. My kidneys were not producing enough of this hormone, consequently I became anemic. However, my iron levels were normal, which is usually what causes the most common form of anemia.
